Chœur des enfants de Montréal is recruiting singers for the 2017-2018 season

  • BEGINNER CHOIR (5 to 6 years old)
  • PREPARATORY CHOIR (7 to 8 years old)
  • JUNIOR CHOIR (9 to 12 years old)
  • SENIOR CHOIR (12 to 18 years years old)

The choir performs a minimum of three concerts every year. The Senior Choir sings regularly with the OSM.

Along the way, choristers get a solid education in music as part of a group of talented singers whose hard work is winning local and national attention from the press, radio & television.

Criteria for the Senior Choir:
- a minimum of 2 years experience in the Junior Choir (or equivalent)
- the ability to focus through a rehearsal which lasts 2 hours (ending 7:45pm)
- the ability to sing pitches accurately and strongly, throughout the required voice-range (i.e. soprano or alto)
- ability to sing a melodic line while hearing a different one
- be able to sing with a mature tone quality that blends with the sound of the Senior Choir
- demonstrate a developing understanding of notation and reading from printed music
- exemplary behaviour at all times

Criteria for the Junior Choir:
- a minimum of 1 year experience in the Preparatory Choir (or equivalent)
- the ability to focus through a rehearsal which lasts 1 hour 15 minutes
- the ability to sing accurate pitches and simple melodic lines
- readiness to attempt challenging repertoire and singing in parts
- an understanding of the essential basics of singing in choir (discipline, sitting, behaviour, concentration, focus etc.)
- demonstrate some basic knowledge of music notation and preparedness to work from sheet music

Criteria for the Preparatory Choir:
- at least 1, preferably 2, years in the Beginner Choir (or equivalent)
- ability to read (in their mother tongue)
- the ability to sit on the chair for the duration of the rehearsal without disturbing others
- the ability to sing pitches and a simple melodic line
- ability to read simple rhythmic notation as taught in Beginner Choir
- demonstrate a willingness to sing and a joy in doing so

Criteria for the Beginner Choir:
- the ability to sit on the chair for the duration of the rehearsal without disturbing others
- demonstrate a willingness to sing and a joy in doing so 
- commit to learning the music by heart.

Rehearsals
Rehearsals are held at the NDG Community Centre, 3757 Prud'homme (on the main floor) between September and June as follows:

  • Beginner Choir - Mondays, 4:15 - 5:00 p.m.
  • Preparatory Choir - Mondays, 5:10 - 6 p.m.
  • Junior Choir - Wednesdays, 4:30 - 5:45 p.m.
  • Senior Choir - Wednesdays, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.


Beginner Choir fees:  $400 per year

Preparatory Choir fees $400 per year

Junior Choir fees $430 per year

Senior Choir fees $550 per year
